How to plan a relaxed and intimate wedding: Chloe and Chris' ceremony at a Cornish holiday home

Updated: 3 days ago

Chloe and Chris’ relaxed, fun and intimate wedding ceremony was held at a gorgeous holiday home in Cornwall on Saturday 4 June 2022…

…. And it was a ceremony we will remember for the two people who we were genuinely delighted to write for and lead their ceremony. Chloe and Chris are an incredibly likeable couple and we were so happy to find that we clicked with them from the very first conversation; there was much love, laughter and leg-pulling in this relationship, and we could see what a genuinely perfect match they were for one another. And over the course of our conversations, we learnt that these two had met at school, and being three years older than her, Chris never gave Chloe a second look, even ‘though she was quite smitten with him! The roles were reversed somewhat when they bumped into each other at a club one Christmas after leaving school, where they shared a first kiss, and Chris promised to message Chloe… but he never did ...

Fast forward three years, they matched on Tinder - and the rest is history!

Due to their jobs, in the years to follow there were often long periods apart, but these two still packed a lot into life, making the most of moving to new places, holidaying in the sun when possible and then with the arrival of Covid, enjoying the chance to do what so many of us take for granted - simply be at home together. Chloe explained that their original plan was to elope, but then as they started to explore all their options, they realised they could have the best of both worlds; a small legal ceremony in their local register office and then an intimate and much more personal and fun ceremony with all their favourite people present. And they chose the beautiful setting of The Stack in Cornwall to host their celebration with 45 of their closest friends and family, for many of whom this was their first wedding – so our ceremony would certainly be setting the standard!

Writing the ceremony was enjoyable and effortless, narrating the story of our couple, including the perfect picnic proposal Chris organised, which left him feeling incredibly stressed, and her incredibly nervous, especially when he decided to propose very close to the cliff edge! We sent off a first draft and this was the feedback: “We love it! And feel you have captured us perfectly and have been part of the whole journey!” Yey!

The weekend of celebrations arrived, coinciding with Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, and after weeks of sunny days, rather disappointingly it was typical Bank Holiday weather which greeted us, chilly, wet and windy – not what we’d ordered at all! And presenting our couple with more than a few challenges, as on the morning of the wedding the ceremony space was under quite a bit of water... By the time the afternoon arrived, you’d never have guessed the earlier drama of the day - the fairy lights were twinkling and the sail awning provided the perfect cover in case of a sudden downpour..

It was lovely to arrive at the venue and climb the stairs of the quirky building to meet Chloe and her girls getting ready, and then later chat with her parents, as well as with Chris and his family. As is tradition, Chris wore his military uniform, and Chloe looked stunning in her choice of wedding gown. When the guests saw the bride arrive with her father, and accompanied by her four bridesmaids, there were definitely some tears shed at the sight of beautiful Chloe!

We warmly welcomed everyone to the ceremony with some lively group vows, and then entertained the guests with tales of Chloe and Chris' adventures together over the last five years. Readings were delivered by friends who chose an extract from Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton, and Linguistics by Caitlin Conlon, a rather unique poem about love. Which soon brought us to the moment for Chloe and Chris to read their vows to one another, and aided by the best man, exchange wedding rings.

After an Instagram-worthy confetti shoot in front of the lovely old engine house, we left our couple and guests to enjoy their weekend. But Chloe kindly emailed us a few days later:

“We have just made it back to Bournemouth and spoke the whole way about how fabulous the day was and how amazing you were! Your energy and delivery were so so lovely. We got many comments from guests throughout the day saying how nice the ceremony was. Thank you again for joining us on our big day and making us feel so special.”

Which, of course, is how we want all our clients to feel, because they really are very special to us! Lovely Chloe and Chris later added this review about their wedding with us:

If you are considering using Celebrant in Cornwall just do it! Lisa couldn't have been more enthusiastic, attentive or authentic. She created the perfect ceremony for us, which was personal, thoughtful and laced with humour. So many of our guests commented on how lovely the ceremony was and how different it was to other weddings they had been. We couldn't be more grateful and would highly recommend Lisa!
