Introducing our new associate Sam!

Hi folks! We wanted to take the opportunity to tell you about our latest associate celebrant recruit – our wonderful and brilliant Sam! And what better way to get to know her than with some random questions…

  • Tell us about your life in Cornwall

We moved to Cornwall from Yorkshire just earlier this year! We are now loving life in the South West, especially as we are close to the sandy beaches on the north AND south coasts of Cornwall. We live on my in-laws' farm, along with our two dogs, two cats and many chickens. We’re so very happy here and look forward to exploring more of Cornwall in the months to come.

  • How did you meet Celebrant in Cornwall?

It was actually through planning our own wedding...

I found CiC on the internet while looking for ‘something a little different’ for our wedding ceremony and I was really drawn to the idea of a celebrant providing something bespoke and unique.

We met Lisa in person while we were visiting family in Cornwall back in 2019, and she was just wonderful - she turned out to be exactly what we wanted for our day. Professional, friendly, compassionate, an amazing speaker and such a genuine person. But little did I know what she had in store for me!

  • What are you enjoying about being a celebrant?

What's not to enjoy? Apart from attending weddings, which I love, I consider it quite an honour to be part of a couple’s special day, and it’s a responsibility I don’t take at all lightly. I love to find out all about a couple and the journey leading up to their wedding or renewal of vows, and then to be the one to tell that story on their big day day, I think it is such a privilege.

  • How would you describe your style?

I've been told that I am quite relaxed, natural and calm, with a fun side. Rather like Lisa and Caroline!

  • Do you have a side hustle?

Like most self-employed people in Cornwall, I do have a side hustle! I have a pop up stall in The Shipyard Market in Porthleven, where I sell environmentally friendly, chemical and cruelty free products, called Step Into Eco. It's something I'm very passionate about.

Quick fire questions!

  • What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?

Definitely learning how to snowboard in my 40s - I wish I’d done it years earlier!

  • Do you have any claims to fame?

Errrmmm .... the golfer Jack Nicklaus once winked at me - does that count?!

  • Are you a dog or cat person?

Tricky. I’d say I’m a dog person with a love for cats and all other animals.

  • If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Cornwall, of course! This is where we always wanted to live and we feel so lucky we’re now living that dream. In my next life, ‘though, Canada is the place for me.

  • Rollercoasters – love or hate?

No way – definitely hate! While I can easily hurl myself off a snowy mountain with a board on my feet, or happily mountain bike down a fast muddy trail - there's no chance you'd get me on a rollercoaster!

  • If you could have any superhero power, what would it be?

I’d love to be like one of those Marvel characters – able to whizz round really fast, making time stand still. I’d get loads done!

  • Describe your perfect day off.

There are so many perfect days I could describe here, but I’ll mention my favourite two. First - spending the day with my husband and two dogs walking the Cornish coastline. Second - spending the day snowboarding down a beautiful snowy mountain in Canada, with my husband and two sons - heaven!

  • What skill would you most like to master?

Being an animal whisperer… totally understanding and communicating with animals would be amazing.

  • Do you have any heroes?

There are many people who I admire immensely, David Attenborough to name just one, but I’m not really comfortable calling celebrities heroes. Heroes to me, are people who put themselves on the line for others - and we have so many of those people around us, who just don’t realise how important their work is. In their eyes, they are just doing their job.

  • What are you most proud of?

That's easy - my two sons!

  • What would you change about yourself if you could?

My hair!

  • Favourite place in Cornwall?

Can't decide between Gwithian and Hayle beach- they're equally beautiful.

  • Name one thing that can instantly make your day better!

Going for a long walk in a woodland, or even just being among trees. I feel better just talking about it!

  • What three things are on your bucket list?

Travelling through Canada in a motorhome with my husband, being able to offer a forever home to a couple of rescue donkeys, and writing a book.

  • Any advice you would give to your younger self?

Start yoga a lot earlier in life and look after your knees!

We love working with Sam and we feel sure you will too!
