Mighty oaks from little acorns grow!

It seems that many of you are looking for a peaceful and idyllic location for your celebrant wedding celebration … which is handy, because I recently visited a lovely spot for a ceremony in Cornwall that is likely to pique your interest!

Hidden away amid the undulating fields and meadows just beyond Newquay (yes, you read that right, Newquay!), is a wonderful and relatively new venue known as Little Oak Cornwall. It’s run by a small and friendly team, who are completely focused on delivering unique and individual events - the very reason why I knew we would get along famously!

I arrived at Little Oak Cornwall on rather a bleak and blustery day in February. Rarely disheartened by the weather, I jumping excitedly out of the car, and was immediately struck by the tranquility of the location – the only audio backdrop to my arrival being the sound of birdsong on the breeze. And having left the hubbub of Newquay just 5 minutes before, it was both unexpected and welcome.

The next thing which made me do a double-take was the space – it’s vast, and presents clients with the most incredible blank canvas for creating a highly personal celebration. If you are thinking tipis and marquees, sunrises and sunsets, woodland and wildflowers, then you are totally getting the Little Oak vibe.

My host Emma explained to me, “We wanted to share Little Oak Cornwall’s space with others after discovering it a few years ago, all over grown and quietly keeping itself to itself - a bit like a secret garden! And in the heart of it, we found a small oak tree - which is, of course, where our name came from. We just felt the whole site was ideal to hold weddings and events, hidden away to enjoy by yourselves.

Our secluded space is just perfect for anyone who wants the freedom to create their own dream day. Being able to choose what structure you would like and how you want to fill it and share this with loved ones truly gives that unique ‘all about us’ kind of wedding. With DIY weddings, clients are able to design the day to fit with their budgets and have exactly what they want - a sit down meal or a picnic, straw bales or Chiavari chairs - the possibilities are endless!”

Offering privacy and peace, yet only a stone’s throw from Holywell Bay and Crantock (both of which are picture perfect places for those beach wedding shots), it’s a great location if you want to arrange on-site camping or glamping , but with the option of many gorgeous hotels, B &Bs and self-catering options within easy reach. It’s also very budget friendly too, with different packages for groups of all sizes, and the opportunity to bespoke your celebration just as you want to.

Having had a good tramp around the site, unsurprisingly, my favourite space within Little Oak Cornwall is under the venue’s namesake, a 30 year old oak tree - a serene and secluded spot for saying your vows. And if you love natural surroundings, Little Oak Cornwall is teaming with wildlife, you might be lucky enough to spot a deer (sadly I wasn’t), or observe the rabbits scampering through the meadow, listen to the woodpecker claiming his territory, or watch the magnificent entertainment provided by the flocks of starlings swooping down from the sky. And while dogs are generally not permitted, if you are bringing one or two as part of your wedding party, I am told they would be most welcome.

It’s rare to come across such a venue, so I was keen to recommend it. If you’d like to find out more, then just head on over to Little Oak Cornwall – they warmly welcome visits – I think you’ll love it!
