We are so excited to introduce you to an unforgettable beachy wedding and reception venue in one of our favourite places in Cornwall – and it’s The Rockpool in Gwithian!
We have loved Gwithian and Godrevy for as long as we can remember - and when you are lucky enough to ever meet someone else who shares your passion for your very favourite place, it’s so exciting but you have the same tricky dilemma – do you tell other people about this wonderful secret location or do you keep it to yourself??
It’s a difficult one, but we have decided to share! So if you are a fan of big skies and even bigger beaches, stunning views in every direction and the chance to walk for miles sometimes without even seeing another soul, you will love Gwithian and Godrevy.
And for laid back ocean lovers looking for a chilled out, rustic, friendly beachside spot for relaxed drinks and great food (including fantastic choice for vegans and we can highly recommend the brunch, cocktails and the Sunday Roast!) or somewhere to hold your wedding or renewal of wedding vows ceremony or reception – you have found it in The Rockpool.
Nestled in the sand dunes of St Gothian Sands nature reserve and adjacent to the National Trust headland and the surrounding Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Rockpool is located in a simply stunning spot. Three miles out to sea is Godrevy Lighthouse, made famous in Virginia Woolf’s novel "To The Lighthouse", and you can potter around the numerous rockpools in sight of this magnificent landmark, or grab your board and head for some of the best surf in the county. If you’re feeling energetic you can walk along the sands all the way to Hayle, with stunning views of Carbis Bay and St Ives the entire route, or in the other direction around the rocky headland to quietly observe the grey seal colony at Mutton Cove.
Winners of numerous tourism awards, The Rockpool is also a member of Surfers Against Sewage 250 Club, a Plastic Free Champion, works with Cornwall Bird Watching & Preservation Society and organises regular beach cleans for children, as well as dog walks in aid of the National Animal Welfare Trust – there is literally nothing to dislike about these guys!
We are lucky to have enjoyed SO many happy times at Gwithian, including a wonderful family ceremony to renew a couple’s wedding vows earlier this year, and we are looking forward to an intimate wedding ceremony here next year – and while it’s not always the easiest to arrange beach ceremonies, since permission does need to be gained from the landowner, as you can see, it’s definitely not impossible either.
If you’re interested in a ceremony at The Rockpool, their lovely wedding coordinator Emma is always on hand to answer all your questions or to arrange a visit. Here is a link to their wedding website to help you find out a bit more – and you might want to check out their wedding brochure and FAQS. And yes, they are licensed for legal weddings. but we are guessing that truly fun-loving, free-spirited, bohemian beachy souls might like something a bit different to a boring registrar script, and that’s where it’s great to see The Rockpool supporting celebrant wedding ceremonies!
And we’re excited to say that Celebrant in Cornwall has been invited to The Rockpool on Sunday 6 November 2022 from 11am to 3pm to support them with their winter wedding open day – so we strongly recommend you pop down to say hello and join us for fizz and canapes! For more details, you can contact Emma via emma@therockpoolbeachcafe.co.uk
PS As always, no money changed hands for this blog – we just love recommending venues that we think you’ll love too!
